Meghalaya
Meghalaya is also one of the Northeast Indian State. Meghalaya means "the abode of clouds". This state share the boundary with Assam to the north and east, International boundary with Bangladesh to its south and west. The capital city of Meghalaya is Shillong. English is the official languages of this state. They also have other languages like Khasi, Garo etc.. according to their tribes.
As Meghalaya is known as the Scotland of east it has many beautiful places to visit. Cherrapunji is one of the famous Tourists destination in Meghalaya. This state has the seven sister waterfall. The living root bridge which is a natural bridge made of roots of trees. Mawlynnong village is one of the cleanest village of Asia which is 100 km away from the capital city Shillong.
The major tribes in this state are Khasi, Garo and Jaintias. Khasi tribes have the largest number of population spreads over the state. The state also have other tribes like Hajong, Baite, Koche, Boro Dimasa, Kuki, Tiwa, Karbi, Rabha and Nepali.
Mostly 80% people of this state depend on Agricultural. Rice is the main crop grown here in this State. Other main food grown in this state are Maize, Wheat, Cereals and Pulses. People of this state also grow Potato, Ginger, Turmeric, Black pepper, Areca Nut, Bay Leaf, Cotton, Jute, Mustard etc...
The food of Meghalaya is different from other Northeast Indian Food. The People of this state preferred rice with spicy meat and fish. They have meat like pork, goat, duck and cow. Jadoh, Ki Kpu, Tung-rymbai and Pickled Bamboo shoots are the food for Khasi and Jaintias tribes. Bamboo Shoots is also a favorite dish to Garo Tribes.
Familiar to the other Northeast Indian State, this state has different types of festival according to the tribes. Festival of Khasi are Ka Shad Suk Mynsiem, Ka Pom-Blang Nongkrem, Ka-Shad Shyngwiang-Thangiap, Ka-Shad-Kynjoh Khaskain, Ka Bam Khana Shnong, Umsan Nongkharai, Shad Beh Sier. Jaintias tribes celebrates Behdienkhlam, Laho Dance, Sowing Ritual Ceremony. And Garo tribes celebrate Den Bilsia, Wangala, Rongchu gala, Mi Amua, Mangona, Grengdik BaA, Jamang Sia, Ja Megapa, Sa Sat Ra Chaka, Ajeaor Ahaoea, Dore Rata Dance, Chambil Mesara, Do'KruSua, Saram Cha'A, A Se Mania or Tata.
